It's blacker than a piece of charcoal, more blasphemous than taking the lord's name in vain, and smells of scorched earth. No, I'm not talking about the corpse of John Paul II, but the debut full-length of the Swedish hellions INFUNERAL. With pseudonyms like Grave (vocals and guitar), Morgue (guitar), Catacomb (bass), and Casket (drums), it doesn't exactly take a rocket-scientist to understand where on the Metal-sky you'll find these guys (six feet below, most likely).

Initially this seems like just another one of those countless Black Metal groups who are nostalgic for the early nineties when nobody had heard of Symphonic Black Metal and Euronymous still more or less had a pulse. ...There is a distinct Rock and Roll groove going on here, and it actually sounds cool as hell amongst the generic Black Metal chaos. Then, like nothing has happened. ...seems inspired by IMMORTAL, and...like they've attempted to recreate the powerful emotions of TAAKE.

Many of the songs on "Sepulchral Monument" work out alright on their own. The sound they achieve can often measure up close to their superior counterparts... There is little to complain about their musical achievements as far as Black Metal goes...
