The North and the South of the Netherlands are sharing this piece of plastic with a double attack of grindcore filled with crust and hardcore outbursts. Dr. Doom from the North starts to stir you up with an instrumental uptempo crusty hardcore song before unleashing their modern grindcore assaults. To keep the songs grooving (that also means interesting) they often fill it up with a hardcore or stoner riff. In resemblance with the hysterical vocals of Eli the trademark in "Declaration of Disobedience" is a sharp noisecore riff that's the supply for the blast beats of drummer Joris. Actually the five songs on this split are pretty similar to the first EP of Dr. Doom. Early next year their first full length will be released, can't wait to hear in which direction that album will go.
Collision from the South takes you back to the time when crossover between fast hardcore, grindcore and metal was nothing more than normal. Six songs full throttle with even the Heideroosjes cover "Not in my Backyard" reconstructed to a Collision song. All the songs are a continuation of the previous album 'Roadkiller' so you know this is also straight in your face music in a new jacket. Nothing less, nothing more. Also from the South is Nabbe who took care of the artwork, he made a combination of snake skeletons and three human skulls that matches the two bands that play grindcore with a modern touch.

Two Dutch grindcore killing machines teaming up for this split. I’ve never heard Dr. Doom before, but I remember seeing their name around the web. Collision on the other hand I own a couple of records with.
The unheard Dr. Doom starts off with an intro that would suit American hardcore/crust legends His Hero Is Gone, or maybe even From Ashes Rise, but what sets in afterwards is a completely different story. Quite unorthodox grindcore comes streaming from my speakers, and at first is sounds a bit like the early works of The Dillinger Escape Plan, with that progressive feeling. Later on they serve doses of Cephalic Carnage, and even Agoraphobic Nosebleed comes to mind, believe it or not. But these lads seem to draw influences from whatever place suits them, and then just mixes it into the bludgeon blender of blasting. The tempo changes are plenty, and it can happen fast. When the blasting is present the ferocity is at a max as the unusually high-pitched main vocals are quite upfront. But there’s plenty of room for heavier slow parts where they show off some metalized crustcore influences. A damn diverse, yet very comprehensive, bunch of tunes, that definitely leaves me craving for more.
So let’s get on to their split partners Collision, that after a threatening sample sets off into a thrashing hardcore-esque grinding manner. And they’ve definitely taken their thrashcore influence to the max here, as it most of the time sounds like highly sped up crossover tunes. There are some breakdown that sound like a sped up Hatebreed, but luckily the metalcore-vibes are only sporadic. Take D.R.I. and add a dose of Slayer, then cram it into the ever-blasting blender of grindcore. The two vocalists share the duties of screaming, and they both present quite a hardcore-vibed style of shouting. The fast-paced music is slowed down at times for moments of thrash metal riffing and choirs. Some riffing would be the envy of bands like Kreator and Destruction, while other parts reek of Dutch hardcore. So if you’re a thrash metal-lad (or gal for that matter) with a place in your heart for hardcore and a love for fast music – look no further!
