Unholy death worship, Cult of Daath play blackened ritual hymns to the darkness and the blood. The Grand Torturers of Hell (this being a re-release of the defunct Warhammer Records) finds these Chicago goat herders in fine form, eight tracks of hateful death rattle and razor-wire guitars. "Ritualistic Impurity" brings the first slow slices followed by the demon thrashing of "Summoning the Blood Red Moon," two fine examples of what true, bullshit-less American black metal is. The funeral procession follows, amongst it’s ranks a cover of Beherit’s "Sadomatic Rites," and thirty-five minutes of hell and pathetic humanity. This is exactly what black metal should be; grim, dirty and evil. Easily one of the better records America has produced. That’s all, I have my razors ready and I need to get to business.

This is the band's first CD release and basically builds on early Beherit (in that it retains the evilness of Drawing Down the Moon but it's faster and also with slightly more structure to it) and riffage-wise its quite primitive, reminding me a lot of Darkthrone.

The Beherit influence is particularly apparent in the vocal style, although I'd say not quite reaching those standards. Still, a worthy effort and something to be proud of. Cult Of Daath are a worthwhile purchase if you like earlier greats like Beherit, Darkthrone, Mayhem and early Sodom. Nice to see they added a pretty great Beherit cover song too ("Sadomatic Rites"), it's done faithfully to the original and that gets them my respect.

This is music to slay people by. I shall have more of this please.
