Sometimes described as "avant black doom," Black Harvest certainly aren't playing by anyone's rule book. At times churning out blast-laden death/grind parts, at others opting for a more atmospheric, slower pace, White Light Came Down is not short on dynamic songwriting. If possible imagine the blackened, atmospheric death of Immolation, with the dark but somewhat catchy 'core influenced metal of early Zao including thick throaty Weyandt-esque lizard vocals. Honestly, a lot more influences come to mind here and there, but the darkly melodic tone of those bands is pretty consistent throughout the album. From time to time, they toss in some highly reverberated clean vocals that are surprisingly successful.

...White Light Came Down is a well-written album that isn't interested in conforming to trends. Very dark and emotive, and slightly left of center, this is an album most metal-heads can find some enjoyment in, but in the end seems to be lacking.
